🌌 Motif space
Every motif in our index, placed by what its claims say. Each dot is a motif, sitting at the middle of its claims, so motifs whose claims say similar things sit close together. Poke one to see its claims gathered around it and the motifs nearest to it. A story people tell, never a claim that it’s true.
🎨 a dot’s color is its genre (🎭 pink, 📜 brown, 🪨 olive, 🕵️ purple, 🗣️ gold; the rest white) 🟡 the motif you picked⚫ its claims, tied to its centre 🟩 dashed: related🟪 solid: what it rests on
How it’s drawn: a computer reads each claim and turns it into a long list of numbers that capture its meaning; a motif’s place is the average of its claims’. Hundreds of numbers are then squeezed into two (or three: press 🧊 to lift the map and drag to turn it), so distance on the screen is a rough guide, and the list of nearest motifs is the exact one. “By shared words” places them by the words claims have in common instead. Laid out once a day (2026-10-31). Also see ↔️ the aisle: the same motifs by which side’s shows tell them.
